Travel Bingo – keeping travelling parents sane worldwide
Children are wonderful. Each one is unique, a tiny little person in their own right. Their innocence is a
beacon of hope for a society gripped with existential fear. Until you load them in a car for an extended period of time…
Search the web for tips on travelling with children and you’ll come across a plethora of sites offering helpful advice for parents dreading that next roadtrip. One suggestion that crops up repeatedly is travel games. These range from the generic ‘I spy with my little eye’ to sing-along cd’s and colouring books. Technologically advanced parents might even want to invest in portable dvd players to keep the tots busy.
A more affordable alternative I came across was travel bingo. Loads of sites had printable bingo cards that include things like ‘pedestrian crossing’, ‘red truck’, ‘the letter S’ and ‘person walking dog’. Creative families might enjoy creating their own cards from a blank template – adding things particular to their little unit like ‘a lady with hair like mom’s’. Add ‘police car’ and the kids may even spot them in time for you to avoid a pesky traffic fine.
Travel bingo cards can be laminated for repeated use or simply printed in bulk for hours of family fun. Just remember to pop them in recycling bin at your next stop.
Car trips can be loads of fun provided they are properly planned. Make sure to pack lost of nutritious snacks, wet wipes and a well-developed sense of humor and those dreaded hours on the road may just turn out to be a perfect opportunity to spend some quality family time.
